Logic Supply Extrovert 4G LTE

Pre-certified, out-of-the-box Extrovert solution, offering global access to the 4G LTE network integrated in a range of fanless industrial computers

FEBRUARY 28, 2017 (RIJSWIJK, NETHERLANDS) - Protection of customized industrial computers from temperature, moisture, dust, and vibration is the backbone of (Logic Supply's) hardware offering. Now, customers can easily and quickly link the company's pre-certified rugged embedded systems to the 4G LTE cellular network anywhere in the world.

Logic Supply's new Extrovert line of 4G SIM card-based modems, which will be formally unveiled at this year's Embedded World Conference in Nuremberg, are pre-certified to work on a wide range of global carrier networks. The solution is platform-agnostic and allows companies to connect Logic Supply hardware to the network, no matter their software, computer model, or configuration.

"Our customers wanted 4G connectivity without the frustration, complexity, and cost of the certification process," said Roland Groeneveld, CEO of Logic Supply. "This product was driven by a challenge brought to our engineers by a customer who needed connectivity for embedded appliances distributed throughout Europe and North America. We saw the opportunity to bring our solution to the global market as the need for cellular network access continues to expand."

Application developers use the LTE network for primary connectivity in remote locations, and failover connectivity in areas accessible by WiFi or hardwired internet. Depending on the application, data flows bidirectionally: an industrial automation engineer or digital signage integrator can, for example, push updates to devices while bypassing firewalls, while an energy management professional can receive real-time machine updates to inform usage rates or help make predictive maintenance decisions.

“Enabling 4G LTE connectivity is critical for a number of today's Internet of Things applications but, in many cases, is not an existing competence within the broader embedded engineering community,” says Dan Mandell, Senior Analyst at VDC Research. “The potential savings on time and development resources from leveraging the combination of pre-certified Extrovert modems and Logic Supply embedded systems cannot be overstated.”

Logic Supply's Extrovert line will also offer customers the ability to preload SIMs from a range of carriers. Customers can then establish their accounts directly with the cellular service providers. “While some customers have pre-existing carrier relationships, many are looking for a complete out-of-the-box solution that includes wireless connectivity,” said Murat Erdogan, Senior Product Manager at Logic Supply. “For these customers, we’ve smoothed the way.”

Tech Specs

The Extrovert NWK200 product family of cellular modems combines the industry-leading Sierra Wireless AirPrime EM/MC module with a SIM slot, integrating both into the Mini PCIe expansion card standard, creating a modem that fits inside the smallest of form factors, and is compatible with the majority of Logic Supply's embedded box PCs. The NWK200 product family enables 4G LTE connectivity to most European carriers, including Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile and Telefonica, as well as US-based carriers such as AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon.

"We've received a lot of questions from our European customers about the Extrovert 4G solution, which recently launched in the US, becoming available here in Europe," said Sjoerd van Unen, Logic Supply EU Sales Manager. "We are happy to announce that this fully integrated solution will soon be arriving here too."
