For a limited time, we’re offering a pretty nice deal on a fully integrated, stainless aluminum Panel PC system from AOpen. Maybe you’re looking to do a quick deployment of kiosks for a temporary installation (say a competitor to the Indiana Jones exhibit currently running at the Montreal Museum of Science—awesome BTW)? Or perhaps you’ve always wanted to have access to your favorite playlist while in your kitchen forming hamburger patties or kneading cookie dough but your hands are all sticky and are potential food-borne pathogen carriers? You don’t want to goop up your desktop keyboard or mouse, and who wants to wait another 20 seconds washing up before queuing up some 80s pop (my personal favorite)? If any of these usage scenarios strike a chord, then maybe this panel PC is perfect for you!
The P780-12A is a 12-inch IP54-rated touchscreen all-in-one panel computer. Featuring 1 GB RAM and 160 GB HDD pre-installed, get your preferred OS on there and you have a rugged, plug-and-play device. We offer Windows XP Pro for Embedded and Windows 7 as options and allow you to upgrade to 2 GB RAM and alternative HDDs, including solid state storage. The unit is completely fanless, so if you swap out the 2.5″ SATA HDD for an SSD, you’ll get additional reliability by configuring the unit as solid state.
Behind the wheel driving the P780 is the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor with 945GSE chipset. For I/O there is the following:
- 4 USB 2.0 ports
- 4 RJ-45 Serial ports (supporting RS-232 COM)
- 1 VGA port
- 1 Gb LAN port
- 2 Audio jacks (mic-in, line-out)
- 1 19 V DC-in jack
- 1 Power button
There are two RJ-45 to DB9 connector converter cables that come standard with the unit. There is also a PCIe Mini Card slot for wireless functionality. Other specifications include:
- 12.1″ LCD size
- 370 nits brightness
- 800 x 600 resolution
- VESA MIS-D 75 standard mounting hole layout on back
- 5°C ~ 25°C operating temperature range (recommended by Logic Supply)
- Dimensions of 323 x 55 x 262 mm
AOpen does list on their site an operating temperature range of 5°C ~ 35°C, but we like to play it a little more cautious than that. The cooling system, while appropriate for the unit, is not as advanced as others we’ve seen. So that customers get the most out of their system, we want to be sure heat doesn’t become an issue.
The listed retail price is $1099. While supplies last, we have it for $849 and that includes 1 GB RAM and 160 GB HDD. Wireless, OS, and any assembly and testing services are separate. Have other ideas for potential usage scenarios? Love it, hate it? Tell us what you think in the comments.
