Features

The pfSense 101R series of network appliances provides a secure, stable, and flexible networking platform that can be used as a Perimeter firewall, router,  wireless access point, VPN or Sniffer appliance, and much more. Based on a customized distribution of FreeBSD and started as a fork of the m0n0wall project, pfSense is more focused  toward full PC installations (rather than the embedded hardware focus of m0n0wall), allowing for greater expandability of firewall functionality. The Intel Atom rackmount version with a 2-, 4-, or 6-port LAN configuration offers an excellent low-profile, lightweight system that can serve as a versatile network appliance for small and medium-sized businesses. The entire system mounts into a rack or to other surfaces (using optional mounting brackets), and its faceplate has a beveled edge for custom branding.

Software Installation on CompactFlash: Please be sure to choose the CompactFlash adapter along with the CompactFlash card in the drop-down options above.

Firewall systems are custom-built. If the standard "Build and Test" option has been selected, please allow 3–5 business days for completion before shipment date. Systems that are assembled by Logic Supply are subject to an industry standard restocking fee of 15% if returned.

pfSense Features:

  • Filters by source and destination IP, IP protocol, source and destination port for TCP and UDP traffic
  • Utilizes p0f, an advanced passive OS/network fingerprinting utility to allow you to filter by the Operating System initiating the connection.
  • Has a highly flexible policy routing made possible by selecting gateway on a per-rule basis (for load balancing, failover, multiple WAN, etc.)
  • Allows grouping and naming of IPs, networks and ports. This helps keep your firewall ruleset clean and easy to understand, especially in environments with multiple public IPs and numerous servers.
  • Is transparent layer 2 firewalling capable—can bridge interfaces and filter traffic between them, even allowing for an IP-less firewall
  • Offers packet normalization: enabled in pfSense by default
  • Has a disable filter: you can turn off the firewall filter entirely if you wish to turn pfSense into a pure router
  • Has three options for VPN connectivity: IPsec, OpenVPN, and PPTP
  • Is a stateful firewall, allowing fine-tuned control of your state table
  • Has a helpful reporting and monitoring system that maintains historical information on: CPU utilization, total throughput, firewall states, individual throughput for all interfaces, packets-per-second rates for all interfaces, WAN interface gateway(s) ping response times
