| Cedar Trail Platform Has Arrived |
|
And it's about time, too! We've been eagerly awaiting the next generation Intel Atom platform, which had a few false starts in late 2011. Although we hoped to see motherboards sporting the Cedarview processors back in September, we're happy to see the options begin to trickle in, with Jetway taking the lead on bringing some of the first boards to market. So, are they worth the wait?
The Intel Cedarview boards offer dual core performance as seen with previous Pineview options, but with improved efficiency, due to the switch from Intel's 45 nm process to 32 nm process. Power consumption for the mobile processor/chipset pair drops below 10 W (N2800/NM10 checks in at 8 W and the N2600/NM10 at 5 W) and Intel incorporates PowerVR SGX technology into its graphics core. This new pairing should introduce a greater range of fanless, low-profile systems capable of 1080p performance but without the power draw.
Take note, though: these boards are currently only compatible with 32-bit Windows 7 operating systems, but we hope to see this expand as Intel's boards hit the market.

| Entry-Level Motherboard with HDMI Output |
|
For customers requiring versatile I/O options at an affordable price-point, the Jetway NC9KDL-2700 offers just that. The board features dual independent display support, dual Gb LAN, LVDS, PCI expansion, and up to 4 GB DDR3 RAM via 2 SO-DIMM slots. The board comes standard as a fanless design, but includes a CPU fan in the accessory kit, which we recommend using for greater reliability. The NC9KDL is ideal for basic desktop computing, set-top boxes, or point-of-sale systems.

| Intel's Thin-ITX "Marshalltown" Packs in the I/O |
|
Following in the Intel D945GSEJT "Johnstown" Mini-ITX mainboard's footsteps, the DN2800MT also slims down its design, falling under 20 mm tall while preserving a full range of I/O connectivity via onboard headers. With PCIe x1 and two PCIe Mini Card slots (one also supports mSATA devices), platform expansion is easy to achieve. The DN2800MT is a flexible, small footprint board that is excellent for use in Web kiosks, basic digital signage applications, and point-of-service devices. If you can't wait to get your hands on the DN2800MT, we have a Thin-ITX alternative available now from Jetway: NF9C-2600.
