| Intel's Core 2 Duo Mobile (Merom) Socket P Processors |
| The fourth generation of Intel's Centrino mobile platform, code-named "Santa Rosa," is a step-up from its predecessor (code-named "Napa") the Core 2 Duo Mobile Socket M platform. The Core 2 Duo processors have an FSB of 800MHz and is compatible with the latest GM965 chipset and GMA X3100 graphics technology, promising full Vista Premium support. This new platform makes use of the 65nm processor technology. However, the next line of Centrino chips, code-named "Penryn," will utilize the advanced 45nm processor technology. This will require a new pin layout, hence Socket P. So even though Socket-P-based mainboards will not be backward compatible with Socket-M-based boards, they will be compatible with the new "Penryn" chips. For more information visit our blog entry on the Santa Rosa platform. |
