VT6655 Patch For Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron)

Please note: A new version of this driver is available that does not require patching.  This driver is also GPL-licensed, making it suitable for eventual inclusion in the kernel.  These instructions are now obsolete.  Download the updated driver source from Via Arena.

Chris Thielen sent me an updated version of his patch for the VT6655 driver to be used with Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron).  It can be downloaded here:

See my previous post on for help building the driver.

i installed ubuntu 8.04 on my amd 64 Athlon x2 machine. but the system cannot detect my nvidia graphics drivers. It gives me information about linux restricted modules, and also the amd processer is not supported.
I’m really getting frustrated, because i seriously want to learn how to use linux

    Hi Joseph,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

The Ubuntu Forums are likely the best place for you to get help with these kinds of issues. People there are frequently very helpful and easy to deal with.

Olivier – VIA has moved most of their driver support to either their corporate site or their Linux portal. This specific driver can be found here.
