The $330 IPCop/Copfilter firewall 25 watt appliance

Logic Supply sent George Ou at ZDNet a Morex 5677 Mini-ITX case, Jetway J7F2WE-1G Mini-ITX mainboard, 2.5″ HDD, and 512MB RAM, and a Jetway 3x Gb LAN module so he could build an IPCop/Copfilter firewall appliance. He recently posted his review of the system here.

For those of you who are not familiar with his blog, it is a very informative selection of articles that offers an in-depth view of “real-world IT.”

For people who are interested in configuring a system similar to the one Ou constructed, you can customize the SolidLogic 5677 Mini-ITX System on our Web site. We sell our firewalls as is, with no additional customization except the ability to choose a 2-port, 4-port, or 6-port (6-port only available in our rackmount firewall) configuration. Our firewalls come pre-installed with m0n0wall, 256MB RAM, and a 256MB flash module. Ou’s system was a specific request, and it never was offered as a configurable firewall option (contrary to what is posted in his article).

We did, however, err and send him the 3x Gb LAN module instead of the 3x 10/100 LAN module that comes with our firewalls. This was an oversight on our part, and it was a bit unfortunate that we made that mistake, but not a complete disaster. The Gb LAN module is not compatible with the m0n0wall software because it lacks the Gb drivers, so this is why we don’t offer it in our firewalls.

Check out his article; I would like to hear some feedback.

About Kristina Bond
Just imagine, Mini-ITX technology rendered through the eyes of an art student. Sounds impossible? Sounds absolutely painful? Not so. I have a great respect for the industry I serve and I hope to do it justice with a fresh eye and firm background in photography and design. I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia with an M.F.A. in photography and a B.F.A in photography from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. I tend to gravitate toward small towns, and I soon found myself stationed in Vermont. Not by chance, I dare say. I have been with Logic Supply since February 2007 and I handle all the marketing, design, and editorial aspects of the company. I love to read anything by Tom Robbins, Kurt Vonnegut, Margaret Atwood, and Ayn Rand, but my writing style is more along the lines of "Mr. Men" books.
